01 — THE WORK
Sicily, 1940.
Concetta is bartered by her disgraced father for a pregnant goat and entrusted to Donna Anna, keeper of the village brothel.
Silent, foreign to the pleasures of the flesh and to any adult conception of love, Concetta offers no resistance.
Soon the newcomer's fame reaches the whole village: but no one knows exactly what pleasures she bestows upon men to drive them so mad.
In the background, the dark soul of fascism demands control and devotion.
02 — DIRECTION
Within Tre Riti sull'Amore, Immacolata Concezione is the station of foundation: the point where the rite is born and the community shows its ambivalence.
It is capable of welcoming, but also of devouring what it desires.
Concetta is a symbol that fractures the order: she «feels» her clients' souls, allows a fragility that is not permitted outside, confuses roles and dissolves hierarchies.
Here the sea, as creature and measure of the possible, is still myth and horizon:
and just as Colapesce, who supports the island from below, Concetta too ends up holding up a community.
